Welcome To The Official Website of R. Austin Cox

Hello and welcome to my humble online abode.  The first idea that came to mind when I contemplated erecting a fan site was your typical moody, dark, horror author type site.  You know the kind I'm talking about, black backgrounds, eerie dripping fonts, gory graphics (or worse yet, stupid Halloween clips).  But while I sometimes work within the horror genre, and truly love it,  I decided against that.  Honestly, it's just not me.  That stuff might be fine for individual book sites, such as Skin Changer, but for my personal site I thought I would do something that was just a little more appropriate.  So kick back, relax, open your favorite beverage, kick off your shoes,  and learn a bit more about my work, my everyday life, and what makes me tick.  There is no danger here, at least not in the ordinary sense.   The demons you will find are subtle and personal in origin, and will certainly bear you no malice.  Thank you for stopping by and most of all, thank you for reading and enjoying my work.  My fondest wish and prayer is that something I write will touch you,  give you pause to reflect, or bring forth an unexpected emotion or memory.  If by chance anything I have written has done this, then my purpose here on Earth is served, and I have you to thank.

UPDATE 7/1/2008

On July 1, 2008 I finished my latest novel THE TOWER OF DREAMS, a novel by R. Austin Cox.  This novel originated as a short story I wrote for my children a few years ago and was so popular with my children and their friends that over the years it has evolved into a novel, that will soon be a series of novels featuring two young brothers from the Dust Bowl era Texas Panhandle who find an alternate dimension known as Gheya.  Work on the next book in the series will begin shortly, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be posting excerpts from TOD on this website in the near future.  I will also be opening a website devoted to the series in the near future at gablesrangers.com.  Thanks to everyone for their support.  Check back soon for excerpts from the novel.

UPDATE 3/1/2009

On February 28, 2009 I finished my latest novella ARAPAHO POINT, a novella by R.A. Cox.  This novella originated as a dream my wife had about a geographic anomaly on our cattle ranch.  This novella would make an excellent movie and could be easily adapted to a script.  For more information about adapting this novella to a movie script, please contact me at the e-mail address below.  Here is a brief synopsis of the novella:

"Bad things happened there."  That was basically all the old Comanche would tell me when I asked him about Arapaho Point.  That should have been my warning; it became John Fordham's epitaph.  I'm haunted by those words.  If only I would have listened...

John Fordham is dead, and the insurance investigator finds more than he bargained for when he begins to investigate the history of Arapaho Point.  Thirty people, possibly more have died at Arapaho Point over the last hundred and twenty years, but who cursed this place, what evil deed haunts Arapaho Point to this very day? Robin Gillespie must find out lest he become ensnared in this world of magic and Indian Mysticism.  He must break the curse of Arapaho Point, but first he has to understand why it came to be.  Can he learn enough about himself to discover a way out, before it's too late for all of them...
